Honest XD
Last Updated: 3.31.2026
The short version
You gave me your email address because you wanted honest content about work, emotional intelligence, and building things that matter. I take that trust seriously. Below is what I collect, why I collect it, and what I'll never do with it.
Honest XD is operated by Justin Johnson as a sole proprietorship. If you have questions about this policy, you can reach me directly at [email protected].
Mailing address:
4776 New Broad St. Suite 195 Orlando, FL 32814
Information you provide directly: When you subscribe to the Honest XD newsletter, register for a workshop, or fill out a form on this site, I collect the information you give me. This typically includes your email address and any responses you provide to polls or survey questions (such as the Honest Assessment onboarding poll). If you complete additional profile fields — like how long you've been working, what's pulling your attention, or where you spend time online — I collect those responses as well.
I don't collect payment information directly. If Honest XD ever offers paid workshops or products, payment processing will be handled by a third-party provider (such as Stripe), and your financial information goes to them, not to me. I'll update this policy before that happens.
Information collected automatically: The Honest XD newsletter is hosted on beehiiv. When you open an email or click a link, beehiiv collects standard email engagement data — open rates, click-through rates, and general device/location information. This is how email platforms work. I use this data in aggregate to understand what content resonates and to improve the newsletter. I don't use it to build individual behavioral profiles.
If you visit the Honest XD website, standard web analytics may collect your IP address, browser type, referring URL, and pages visited. This data is anonymized and used only to understand site traffic patterns.
Your email address and poll/survey responses are used for three things:
Sending you the newsletter. That's the primary purpose. You subscribed; I write; you receive.
Personalizing your experience. If you respond to the Honest Assessment or other polls, I use your answers to tailor which content you see first and which workshop invitations are most relevant to you. This is segment-based personalization, not individual tracking — it means you're in a group (like "people interested in the AI conversation"), not that I'm building a dossier.
Understanding the audience in aggregate. I analyze poll responses, engagement data, and subscriber trends as a whole to guide what I write about, identify which topics matter most, and occasionally publish aggregate findings (such as "58% of subscribers chose the AI answer this month"). Individual responses are never published or shared in identifiable form.
I will never use your information for purposes unrelated to Honest XD without telling you first and giving you the choice to opt out.
I want to be explicit:
I don't sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
I don't share your email address with third parties for their marketing purposes.
I don't rent subscriber lists.
I don't use your information for targeted advertising on other platforms.
If Honest XD ever participates in beehiiv's newsletter recommendation network (Boosts), that involves recommending other newsletters to you — not sharing your data with those publishers. You always choose whether to subscribe to anything else.
beehiiv — The newsletter platform that stores subscriber data, sends emails, and manages engagement analytics. beehiiv's privacy policy governs their handling of data on their platform. You can review it at beehiiv.com/privacy.
Web analytics provider — If the Honest XD website uses analytics (such as a privacy-respecting tool like Fathom, Plausible, or similar), that provider processes anonymized site visit data. I'll name the specific provider here once selected.
Payment processor — If and when Honest XD offers paid products, the payment processor (e.g., Stripe) will handle financial transactions. They'll be named here before any paid offering launches.
No other third parties have access to your information unless required by law.
The Honest XD website uses minimal cookies — only what's necessary for the site to function and for basic, anonymized analytics. I don't use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or social media tracking scripts.
beehiiv emails may contain tracking pixels that register opens and clicks. This is standard for email platforms and helps me understand engagement. If you'd prefer not to be tracked, most email clients allow you to disable image loading, which prevents open tracking. You can also click through to content by copying links rather than clicking them directly.
I don't use this tracking data to identify you personally. It's aggregated to see patterns like "40% of subscribers opened this issue" — not "Justin's subscriber Jane opened the email at 9:47 AM."
Unsubscribe at any time. Every email includes an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click. No guilt trip. No "are you sure?" sequence. If you leave, I delete your information from the active subscriber list. I may retain anonymized, non-identifiable aggregate data (such as poll response totals that have already been counted).
Access your data. You can email me at [email protected] to ask what information I have about you. I'll respond within 30 days.
Delete your data. You can request that I delete all information associated with your email address. Email me at [email protected] and I'll process the request within 30 days.
Correct your data. If anything I have is wrong, let me know and I'll fix it.
California residents: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have additional rights including the right to know what personal information is collected about you, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of your personal information. Honest XD does not sell personal information. To exercise any CCPA rights, contact me at [your email address].
European residents: If you're in the EU or EEA, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict processing, and port your data. The legal basis for processing your data is your consent (you subscribed). You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing. To exercise any GDPR rights, contact me at [your email address].
I retain your subscriber data for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, I remove your information from the active list. Anonymized aggregate data (poll totals, engagement statistics) may be retained indefinitely because it cannot be tied back to you.
If Honest XD ceases operation, I will delete all subscriber data rather than transfer it to another party.
Your data is stored on beehiiv's platform, which uses industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit and at rest. I don't store subscriber data on personal devices or in unencrypted files. I use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication on all accounts that have access to subscriber information. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach occurs that affects your information, I'll notify you by email within 72 hours of becoming aware of it, describe what happened, and explain what steps I'm taking.
Honest XD is not directed at anyone under 18. I don't knowingly collect information from minors. If I learn that I've collected data from someone under 18, I'll delete it promptly.
If you attend an Honest XD workshop (free or paid, virtual or in-person), I may collect your name and email for registration and follow-up purposes. Workshops may involve group exercises where participants share information voluntarily — this sharing is governed by the psychological safety norms established at the beginning of each session, not by this privacy policy. I don't record workshops or capture participant responses for publication without explicit consent.
If anonymous exercises are used (such as the Shame Inventory in the AI workshop), responses are collected without identifying information and may be referenced in aggregate in future content. No individual response will be attributed to a named participant.
If I make significant changes to this policy, I'll notify subscribers by email before the changes take effect. Minor clarifications or formatting updates won't trigger a notification but will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
